Having been saved from a violent Colombian guerrilla group, Sarah now distributes Bibles to youth who are at risk of being recruited into the same violence.
When Sara was 14, she left home and joined the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Attracted to the group’s Marxist ideology and in search of acceptance, Sara wanted to help the FARC bring about a revolution in her country.
Years later, after she learned that members of her family had become Christians, she was urged by fellow guerrillas to denounce her family. They knew the gospel ran counter to their violent ideology. Sara eventually left the FARC, got married and placed her trust in Christ.
Because God saved her from a violent life with the FARC, Sara feels especially compelled to share God’s Word with others who have given their lives to the guerrilla group. Sara and her husband also distribute Bibles, including The Action Bible, to youth. Their ministry has not gone unnoticed, as FARC leaders have threatened them many times.
The illustrated Bibles have touched many lives; some who have received copies have called Sara and told her they want to start a group to meet with her and discuss the stories. “The Action Bible is like a movie, and it draws them in,” Sara said.
Sara and her family recently helped lead one of their daughter’s friends to faith in Christ. She was a vulnerable girl, at risk of being recruited by the FARC like Sara once was. The girl kept asking if she could study the Bible with Sara and her family, even though the girl’s parents didn’t approve. Sara’s family shared the gospel with the girl and welcomed her into their discipleship classes.
