Tong was imprisoned for six months by the Chinese government for allowing an unregistered church to meet in her home. When Todd met Tong after her release, he was surprised by her perspective on prison.
“I got out my recorder to begin the interview,” Todd said. “First question: ‘So tell me about the prison.’ Her face lit up with what I can only call a heavenly smile. ‘Oh, yes,’ she said, ‘that was a wonderful time.’”
Prison had been wonderful because God was there with her and she felt God’s presence in a unique way. She was also able to lead several cellmates to the Lord. She did not allow the harsh physical conditions of her imprisonment to overwhelm the spiritual condition in which she experienced the closeness of her Creator.
