Help the families of Christians killed for their witness
Liliana was 13 when her father was killed. His murder shook her faith.
Liliana’s parents, Amelo and Christina, were called to pastor a church in a dangerous region along the Colombia-Venezuela border. The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a guerrilla group that opposes the influence of Christianity in areas it controls, warned Liliana’s family to leave. The guerrillas firebombed their church and forced the entire village to relocate. Despite the threats and violence, Amelo and Christina persevered.
Then, one morning in 2011, Amelo left the house as usual — but never returned. His family later learned that he had been murdered for defying the FARC and continuing his gospel ministry.
“It was really hard,” Liliana said. “It kind of rocked our faith.”
Part of the healing process for Liliana was attending a discipleship training program, where she sensed God calling her to become a missionary. “Because of the experience, especially regarding my dad … being a martyr, I know that God has been preparing me for years,” Liliana said. “I know that God is with me. Who can be against me?”
Liliana is completing a degree in psychology, which she trusts will be helpful in her missionary work. “More than anything, [pray] that I remain firm in my belief in God,” she said.
